INMATE MEDICAL/MENTAL
HEALTH
The jail has an in-house nurse to handle
inmate medical needs. Also, a counselor is present to counsel on
drug/alcohol and anger-management issues.
Barb Sparr, RN, C, is the jail
nurse. She is a Registered Nurse and a Certified Correctional Health
Professional. She works 40 hours a week, but is on call as
needed. Nurse Barb is employed by Company Care, through Joel
Pomerene Memorial Hospital.
Nurse Barb manages all inmate medical
needs, performs medical assessments, schedules doctor appointments,
collects samples for the employee random drug testing, and provides
medical in-service training to employees, as required.
Rebecca Croft, the in-house counselor, has
a Masters Degree in Social Work and Business Administration and is a Licensed
Social Worker. She is employed through Your Human Resource Center and
works five (5) days in an office located in the jail.
Drug and alcohol education classes are
held in the jail for the inmates, as well as Life Skills and Opportunity
for Change programs. The Life Skills program provides parenting,
relationship, and employment seeking skills. The Opportunity for
Change program address mental health issues and anger management.
